Norwegian Wood - Jay Rubin, Haruki Murakami Norwegian Wood is populated with selfish and self centered people. A lot of times that will make for a great novel but I personally found it overwhelming and depressing. I realize that a lot of these people were mentally ill but that didn't stop me from wanting to drop kick the ones that weren't. Looks at Midori.Only beautiful people seem to deserve love and Murakami's obsession with sex and suicide is suffocating. I understand that this is very Japanese but Murakami has been able to convey that feeling of hopelessness with a little less self indulgence in some of his other books. For me that's a shame as I adore the way he writes. Maybe it's just this translation.
